Our Story
The Beginning:
Joe and Kelly’s love story began in 2016. Joe asked Kelly on multiple dates over several months, which initially led to numerous denials, until she finally came to her senses and agreed to the date. They went to dinner and then ended up at the casino. Joe quickly realized how much Kelly liked to gamble, particularly with slots and scratch offs, which is ultimately where the idea for Joe’s awesome proposal began.
The Relationship:
Joe and Kelly dated long-distance for two years, but they managed to make the best of it and see each other quite often. They spent many of their weekends together traveling to several cities, while experiencing new sights, wineries, breweries, golf courses, casinos, tours, hikes, stadiums, concerts, etc. They truly enjoy each other’s company, so after the two years of long distance, it made sense they move in together to create more experiences. Although they have their differences when it comes to the likeness of Joe’s destructive Roomba, they ultimately make great roommates.
The Proposal:
Kelly had spent all of August planning a surprise party for Joe’s birthday. In theory, Kelly was planning to bring Joe to Topgolf, and when they showed up, their friends would be there waiting to celebrate Joe’s birthday. However, since the party wasn’t starting until 5PM, Joe wanted to get an earlier start to the day, so he suggested they stop at a nearby winery.
When they got there, Joe wanted to explore the vineyards, but Kelly was resisting due to the stress of organizing the surprise party. However, after some convincing, Joe got Kelly down to the vineyards.
That’s when it happened – Joe pulled out two lottery tickets from his pocket, knowing Kelly couldn’t resist scratch offs. The first one was a loser, but as she scratched off the second one, she realized she hit the jackpot when three symbols matched, the prize box read “Will you marry me?,” and Joe was down on one knee.
Although Kelly was overjoyed at the idea of forever together, she thought it was even more thoughtful that Joe was able to pull in an element from their first date with it. (Plus, it definitely eased Joe’s nerves knowing Kelly can’t resist a scratch-off!).
The Wedding:
Covid-19 may have thrown a wrench in the couple's plans, but they made the best of it. Although our wedding ceremony needed to be limited to just their immediate families and wedding party, they still decided to get married on their original date of August 21, 2020. They had a beautiful day and we both said 'I Do!'
The Future:
Our story is just beginning and we're so glad to have each other, all of you, and the health of our family and friends. Although we may already be married, we cannot wait to officially renew our vows with each and every one of you on August 20, 2021! See you then!
